Google has confirmed that some Pixel Watches are experiencing unexpected battery drain, but it also says a fix is already available.

Last week, we reported on a trending Pixel Watch complaint – sudden and out-of-the-ordinary battery drain. More than a few posts and comments on sites like Reddit suggested Pixel Watch users were noticing an uptick in battery usage, leaving them with less than half of their normal usage.

Google reached out to 9to5Google with a statement shortly after the issue showed up, noting it was aware of the problem. Yesterday, it stated that a fix for the Pixel Watch battery drain issue is being rolled out now. The update is expected to appear for all users “over the next couple of days.”

The fix for the battery drain issue, affecting a small number of Pixel Watch users has begun rolling-out and will be complete over the next couple of days. To implement the fix, please update your Pixel Watch apps by pressing the crown on your Pixel Watch, opening the Play Store app, and tapping Manage apps > Update all.

Plummeting battery life didn’t affect every single Pixel Watch, but a number of users across models like the Pixel Watch 2 and up were more than enough to suggest something other than hardware was causing the issue.

Google hasn’t commented on where the issue originated, and whether it came from a recent Wear OS update. It’s possible it could have been one of the Pixel Watch’s proprietary apps, or something in general software that demanded too much background energy.

In any case, this software update is expected to fix any unexpected battery drain on Pixel Watch models that were affected, and should be available before your Pixel Watch can run out again.
