- Google says domestic flights have historically been cheapest around 39 days before departure, while international fares hit their lowest around 89 days out.
- The idea that Tuesday is the best day to book is largely a myth, with the cheapest booking day saving only about 1.4% versus the most expensive.
- Changing when and how you fly matters more: weekday travel can save up to 20% domestically, while nonstop flights cost around 20% more than connecting options.
Booking a flight can sometimes feel like a gamble. You find a fare that looks reasonable, but instead of booking it, you start wondering whether it’ll be cheaper tomorrow. But wait too long, and you could end up paying even more.
Google already tries to make that decision easier with its travel tools, and now it’s sharing more data on when to book. If you already know your destination and travel dates, Google Flights and AI Mode in Search can show you the “cheapest time to book,” helping you understand whether current fares are on the lower side or if prices could change in the coming days.
