Reddit’s announcement says that ads will be based on a range of factors, including the search query.
- A search for “espresso station” could surface ads for espresso machines, coffee beans, or mugs.
- A search for “home office setup” could surface ads for monitors, desks, or office chairs.
The goal is to leverage search results pages with a “high purchase and search intent.” In other words, where the company believes that you are searching for advice on buying a particular type of product.
Reddit says this will initially involve a relatively small number of advertisers before a wider rollout.
This is an initial test with a select group of eligible advertisers. During this test, we will evaluate and understand how users respond to these ads so we can refine the experience for users and advertisers over time.
