In an update, Google Photos is making it possible to fully disable background music in Memories.
Memories in Google Photos are a fun way to relive some highlighted moments in your photo library, but it can be a little frustrating to see a video pop up only to have the default background music to play over those memories.
Google is now rolling out an option to disable background music entirely.
This new global setting can be found under Photos settings > Preferences > Memories with a “Background music” toggle being added. We’re not seeing this in v7.99 on Android, but Google says that it is on its way to the app.
We are introducing a new setting across all platforms that allows you to disable background music added by Photos to Memories. When turned off, this feature prevents extra music tracks from playing during your Memories. If your Memory includes a video, you’ll still be able to hear its original audio.
Google adds that this is a global setting that applies to all Memories, including the end-of-year recap.
Beyond adding the option to remove background music, Google says that the variety of background music options has also been updated, so you might start hearing new tracks if you do opt to leave the setting turned on.
