When FaceTime isn’t working properly on your device, one of the best ways to fix it is to sign out and sign back in. This is akin to restarting the system, which refreshes things and usually fixes the problem.
Another reason to sign out of FaceTime is if you don’t use it on a particular device and don’t want it to ring when you get an audio or video call.
Finally, you can sign out to ensure people who have access to your iPhone, iPad, or Mac can’t FaceTime others behind your back. But in all fairness, if you’re worried about this, consider using separate user accounts on Mac. And on iPhone, use Guided Access to lock the borrower (like a child) to one app only. Alternatively, you can restrict FaceTime completely so no one can use it without your Screen Time passcode.
That said, here’s how to sign out of FaceTime on iOS and macOS, with a bonus section for Android and Windows PC users.
iPhone or iPad
- Open the Settings app.
- Scroll to the bottom and tap Apps.
- Select FaceTime from the list of applications.
- Turn off the FaceTime switch to sign out.
If you’re signing out of FaceTime to troubleshoot an issue, remember to restart your iPhone after following the above steps. Then, head back to FaceTime settings and turn it back on.
Note: You can turn off iMessage by going to Settings > Apps > Messages.
1) Open the FaceTime app.
2) Click FaceTime > Settings from the top menu bar.
3) Make sure you’re in the General tab, click Sign Out, and confirm.
Restart your Mac, open the FaceTime app, and sign in again if you had signed out to troubleshoot issues.
Aside from signing out of FaceTime, you can also consider signing out of your Apple Account on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac to fix FaceTime woes.
Browser
Apple users can invite friends on Android phones or Windows PCs to join a FaceTime call directly from their web browser. There is no option to sign out of FaceTime in the Android or PC browser. Simply ending the call or hitting the red Leave button is enough.
However, if you (an Android or PC user) cannot join a FaceTime call, delete your browser data and restart the device to fix the issue.
