TL;DR
- A new leak shows off a Galaxy S27 Ultra dummy unit, offering us an early look at Samsung’s next flagship.
- The dummy unit has also been compared to the iPhone 18 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro, and Galaxy S26 Ultra, showing size and design differences.
- The redesigned camera bar on the phone could finally make magnetic accessories more practical.
Samsung’s Galaxy S27 Ultra is still months away from its official debut, but we’re getting a better idea of what the company’s next flagship could look like. While renders of the device leaked months ago, folks over at Android Headlines have now built a physical dummy unit based on its exclusive CAD files, offering us a closer look at the phone’s redesigned camera bar and overall dimensions.
The most noticeable change on the Galaxy S27 Ultra is its redesigned camera bar, which moves the cameras higher up on the back of the phone. This leaves more room for magnetic accessories, potentially making the Galaxy S27 Ultra much more compatible with MagSafe-style chargers and battery packs.
That could be a meaningful improvement over the Galaxy S26 Ultra. While the current flagship supports magnetic accessories through compatible Qi2 cases, its large camera bump can interfere with accessories, preventing them from connecting properly. The resulting poor alignment can lead to slower charging and excessive heat.
The new design could help address that issue, although Samsung has yet to confirm whether the Galaxy S27 Ultra will include built-in Qi2 magnets.
Meanwhile, the dummy Galaxy S27 Ultra unit retains the S Pen slot at the bottom, suggesting Samsung isn’t planning to ditch the stylus just yet.
The phone’s dimensions also appear to remain largely unchanged. The Galaxy S27 Ultra reportedly measures 163.76 x 78.25 x 7.97mm, compared to 163.6 x 78.1 x 7.9mm for the Galaxy S26 Ultra. That makes the upcoming device just a touch larger than its predecessor.
The camera bar isn’t the only design detail worth noting. Android Headlines notes that the dummy also seems to sit more steadily on a flat surface than the Galaxy S26 Ultra, although tapping the screen still causes some wobble. Since the dummy doesn’t have the final phone’s weight, it’s too early to draw conclusions about how the finished device will behave.
Rumors suggest Samsung could drop the 3x telephoto camera, leaving the Galaxy S27 Ultra with a 200MP main camera, a 50MP ultrawide, and a 50MP 5x telephoto camera.
The redesigned camera bar also gives the Galaxy S27 Ultra a look that’s somewhat reminiscent of the iPhone 18 Pro. However, Samsung isn’t the only Android manufacturer moving toward this design, which could offer practical benefits beyond aesthetics.
One downside for existing Galaxy owners is that the redesigned camera arrangement will likely make Galaxy S26 Ultra cases incompatible with the new phone. While some cases with particularly large camera cutouts might still work, most will need to be replaced.
Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy S27 series in early 2027. Until then, the dummy offers an early glimpse of what could be one of the most noticeable Galaxy Ultra redesigns in recent years, even if the rest of the phone remains largely familiar.
