The TECNO CAMON Slim 5G is all about packing more into a slimmer body. At just 6.4mm thin, it manages to fit a massive 6,000mAh battery while keeping the design lightweight.

But beyond its sleek look, does it have enough performance, camera quality, and features to make it a compelling mid-range option? Here’s what we think after spending some time with the device.

Design and Construction

The first thing you’ll notice about the TECNO CAMON Slim 5G is its design. Its overall look is simple but eye-catching, especially in this Burgundy Red colorway.

Holding the phone for the first time, its 171g weight immediately stands out. Despite having a large display and a big battery, the phone feels lightweight and easy to carry around.

It’s also noticeably thin, measuring just 6.4mm. Usually, making a phone this thin means making some compromises, especially with the battery. But TECNO managed to fit a 6,000mAh battery inside this slim body. I really like how easy it is to slide the phone into my pocket. Plus, the Burgundy Red finish gives it a more distinctive look.

Moving to the back, we have a matte-finish panel with a two-tone design around the camera island. You’ll also find the TECNO logo at the lower-left corner, while the “CAMON” branding is placed beside the camera module.

The frame also has a matte finish, adding to the phone’s clean look. Despite being lightweight and thin, the CAMON Slim 5G doesn’t feel fragile. It still feels sturdy and well-built.

My only complaint is that the back panel can easily pick up fingerprint smudges. Thankfully, TECNO includes a transparent case, which helps protect the phone while still showing off its design. At first, I thought the case supported wireless charging because of its design, but it doesn’t. That’s something to take note of. It’s probably designed for other purposes, such as attaching a magnetic card holder or another compatible accessory.

Durability-wise, the phone also comes with IP68/IP69K protection, giving it resistance against dust and water. However, TECNO notes that this does not guarantee protection under extreme conditions, so it’s still better to take care of the device.

For the buttons and ports, the right side houses the AI Button, while the volume rocker and power button are on the other side. Up top, we have the speaker grille, microphone, and Dolby Atmos branding. Down below are the USB-C port, another speaker grille, and SIM card slot.

Overall, the CAMON Slim 5G has a simple yet modern design.

Display, Multimedia, and Biometrics

Moving on to the display, the TECNO CAMON Slim 5G features a large 6.78-inch AMOLED display with support for a 144Hz refresh rate.

For everyday use, the large screen gives you plenty of space for watching videos, browsing social media, reading articles, and playing games. Scrolling through the screen also feels smooth, thanks to the high refresh rate. I also like how TECNO kept the bezels uniform around the display. It gives the phone a cleaner look and makes the screen feel more immersive.

The AMOLED panel is also good for watching movies and other videos. Blacks look deep, colors are vibrant, and the contrast is strong, making content enjoyable to watch. From what I noticed, the display leans slightly toward cooler tones, but this didn’t really affect my overall viewing experience.

TECNO doesn’t specify the exact brightness of the display, but during my outdoor use, the screen was still bright enough to remain visible under direct sunlight. So, you shouldn’t have much trouble checking your phone while outside.

For multimedia, the experience is pretty good. The speakers can get loud enough to fill a room, although the audio quality has a few compromises. Bass is lacking, and the sound can feel a little thin.

I was expecting a bit more, especially since the phone comes with Dolby Atmos support. Still, the overall audio experience is decent. If there’s one area I’d like TECNO to improve on the CAMON Slim 5G, it would be the speakers.

Lastly, for security, the phone has an under-display fingerprint scanner and face unlock. Both work smoothly and reliably, although there’s a very slight delay when unlocking.

Cameras

For photography, the CAMON Slim 5G comes with a 50MP main camera and an 8MP ultra-wide camera.

The main camera is the one I used most of the time, and for everyday photography, it produces good results. Photos taken from 1x to 2x have a good amount of detail, with images looking crisp and sharp. However, once you go beyond 2x zoom, that’s where you’ll start to notice some loss in detail.

Since the phone doesn’t have a dedicated telephoto camera, don’t expect too much when zooming in. Still, the main camera is capable of taking decent photos for everyday use.

Meanwhile, the 8MP ultra-wide camera also delivers good results. It captures a wider scene while retaining a decent amount of detail and color. From what I noticed, the images tend to lean toward cooler tones, but the colors still look natural.

In low-light situations, however, the results can be a bit hit or miss. The camera sometimes struggles to capture enough detail, especially in darker areas. Night photography is still decent, and you can see good details in the photos, but the limitations become more noticeable once you zoom in.

For selfies and video calls, the phone has a 32MP front-facing camera placed inside the punch-hole cutout. The results here are good, with plenty of detail and natural-looking colors. Skin tones also look quite natural, which I like.

As for video recording, the CAMON Slim 5G supports up to 2K at 30FPS. When shooting with the rear camera, the footage isn’t as shaky as I initially expected. There’s also a stabilization mode available in the camera app if you want smoother footage.

Video quality leans slightly toward warmer tones, while the microphone can be quite sensitive and picks up a noticeable amount of background noise. And with that, here are some of the sample shots we took with the TECNO CAMON Slim 5G.

Performance and Benchmarks

Now, let’s talk about what’s inside. Under the hood, the TECNO CAMON Slim 5G is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7300e. Our unit comes with 8GB of RAM, plus another 8GB of extended memory, and 256GB of storage.

For everyday tasks, this chipset is more than enough. Jumping between multiple apps, browsing social media, and running different apps in the background all felt smooth during my time with the phone. I didn’t experience any noticeable lag.

For the benchmark results, the CAMON Slim 5G also delivered good numbers. In AnTuTu V12, the phone scored almost 1 million points. We also ran some other benchmark tests, and the results were consistent with what we experienced during everyday use.

Moving on to gaming, the phone handled several popular titles well. During my gameplay sessions, lighter games like Call of Duty Mobile, Pokémon Unite, and Mobile Legends ran smoothly without any major hiccups. Even with the graphics settings pushed to the highest level, the phone was able to keep up.

The same goes for heavier titles like Genshin Impact and Wuthering Waves. At first, I noticed some lag when playing Genshin Impact on the lowest graphics settings. But after switching the settings to the highest level, the game actually performed better than I expected. I was almost ready to conclude that the phone was struggling, but it turned out that the performance was better than expected.

The CAMON Slim 5G handled these games well for a mid-range device. Of course, there’s one thing I noticed: the phone can get warm during longer gaming sessions. Given how thin the CAMON Slim 5G is, some heat is expected. Thankfully, it never got alarmingly hot. The temperature remained manageable throughout my testing.

Overall, the CAMON Slim 5G offers smooth everyday performance, capable gaming performance, and manageable thermals despite its slim design.

OS, UI, and Apps

Onto the software side, the CAMON Slim 5G runs on Android 16 with TECNO’s latest HiOS 16. The interface feels pretty clean while still giving you plenty of customization options, so you can style and arrange the UI based on your preference.

There are still some pre-installed apps or bloatware, but most of them can be easily removed if you don’t need them.

For the features, HiOS 16 brings several smart and AI-powered tools that can be useful for everyday tasks. Aside from Google’s Circle to Search, Ella is also present here, and most of the AI features I used are in the Gallery app.

And if you’re more into customization, HiOS 16 also adds features like Live Wallpaper, 3D Wallpaper, and Depth Wallpaper, along with Mini Mode for a more compact interface. There’s also AI Healthy Eating if you’re interested in tracking what you eat.

As for software support, TECNO is promising up to three major Android updates and five years of security updates, which should keep the CAMON Slim 5G supported for several years. The device also carries a 60-month A+ TÜV SÜD Fluency Rating

Connectivity and Battery Life

The battery is probably one of the more notable parts of the CAMON Slim 5G. Despite its slim 6.4mm body, TECNO managed to fit a 6,000mAh battery inside.

That’s a large battery for a phone this thin. During my time with the phone, it easily lasted me a whole day on a single charge.

In our PCMark Battery Test, the phone recorded16 hours and 36 minutes. Meanwhile, our video-loop test gave us 20 hours and 53 minutes, which is a solid result considering the phone’s slim design.

This is especially useful if you spend a lot of time on your phone. Whether you’re watching YouTube, scrolling through social media, playing games, using mobile data, or taking photos, having a large battery gives you more room before you need to reach for the charger.

For charging, the phone supports 45W wired charging. It also comes with reverse charging, which I found useful. I was able to use the CAMON Slim 5G to charge another device and even my wireless earphones when I needed some extra juice.

Connectivity-wise, the phone supports 5G, LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and eSIM. The addition of eSIM can also be useful for travelers, since you can use another network connection when you’re abroad without having to swap your physical SIM card.

Pricing and Availability

Now, we’ve come to the part that most of us are probably waiting for: the price. As of writing, TECNO has yet to announce the official pricing of the CAMON Slim 5G. Once the official price is available, we’ll update this section with all the details.

Verdict

Now, wrapping things up. Overall, the TECNO CAMON Slim 5G is a solid mid-range smartphone with a few notable strengths. Its slim and lightweight design is one of its biggest highlights, especially considering the 6,000mAh battery packed inside.

Performance is also capable, handling everyday tasks and demanding games without major issues. The 144Hz AMOLED display adds to the experience, while the cameras are capable enough for everyday photography.

There are some compromises, particularly with the speakers and low-light camera performance, so it isn’t without its limitations. With 45W charging, reverse charging, 5G, eSIM, and a range of software features, the CAMON Slim 5G covers most of the basics expected from a modern mid-range phone. Its official pricing will ultimately determine how competitive it is in its segment.
