Now I’ve never worn a ring before, but I have been wanting to test a smart ring for a while now. I was able to get my hands on the latest Gen 3 Smart Ring from RingConn, and to be honest, I’m a big fan. There’s one issue, but there’s also a HUGE perk. Be sure to peep the full video review below.

Review of the RingConn Gen 3

The RingConn Gen 3 Smart Ring is brand spankin’ new on the market and comes in a variety of sleek finishes: Matte Black, Royal Gold, Brushed Rose Gold, Future Silver, and Brushed Silver. This version costs $349… more on that in a bit.

    • Integrations: Apple Health / Google Health Connect

To begin, RingConn sent me a free sizing kit that offers sizes 6-15. Per the company, the Gen 3 Smart Ring varies in size compared to other RingConn models as well as standard rings, so they highly recommend using the kit.

I found one that fit best and was advised to wear it for 24 hours to be sure. Then I chose my finish which includes gold, matte black, brushed rose gold, silver and brushed silver. I went with the brushed silver.

A few days later, by RingConn ring arrived, perfectly packaged and with plenty charge for initial setup. First impression was at 2.3 mm, this ring is pretty thick. I’m not expert, but it definitely felt thicker than a standard ring, but that’s to be expected given the amount of micro tech in this thing. Have a look at the thickness.

In addition to the ring, the box came with two manuals, plus a universal wireless charging base which is new for this model. Instead of a charging stand that stays put on your nightstand or home desk, this case itself can hold a charge and travel with you, charging your RingConn ring on the go, similar to a pair of wireless headphones.

Charging was as simple as connecting the included USB-C cable and attaching the ring, which is magnetized. While that was happening, I perused the user manual which is a ton of different languages and the quick start guide which had a handy QR code to download the Rinconn App.

As you’ll see in my video review below, the entire ring setup was done, then the app automatically pushed the latest firmware update which was also quick to install

From there, the RingConn app takes you step by step in connecting to your health and fitness apps before you pop it on. It’s here that you can opt for the new vibration feature, which sends subtle alerts to your finger you can follow up on by checking your smartphone.

To calibrate the ring, I had to measure my own blood pressure. Luckily I had a home unit, but the ring needs a baseline to ensure your health metrics are being read correctly. Something to keep in mind!

I was immediately blown away at the amount of granularity this app provides in terms of settings and data metrics. I loved that it also has location services in case you misplace it, similar to “Find My” on Apple.

For Gen 3, there are a few new features worth noting. It offers vascular health insights with 24/7 monitoring. It also measures stress levels and will vibrate before suggesting you relax and take a breath. The RingConn Gen 3 will track your daily activity, vitals, and sleep to give you an overall “wellness balance” score each day.

You can track metrics you never knew existed, compare them on a daily, weekly, monthly basis, and set up your own activity and workout goals, all in the app.

Now for what I think is probably the biggest perk of the RingConn Gen 3 Smart Ring: There is zero subscription fee for any of this data. You buy the ring and you’re all set. I absolutely love that.

I was really impressed at the sleep monitoring. It’s not just data about what sleep cycles you hit and for how long. Instead, the app also fathers insights into what those numbers mean and provides suggestions.

Another new and unique feature for the Gen 3 ring is sleep apnea analysis. You activate the analysis in the app and the RingConn will monitor your breathing during sleep over the course of three nights, then give you and overall assessment. I did it twice and found I have “suspected mild risk!

Okay, time for my only qualm with this smart ring. As I mentioned before, it is thick. So after about a week and a half, it did start to irritate my skin a little (see my video below). I’ve never worn a ring in my life, so that could be part of it too, because I’m not used to that friction. Either way, I took about half a day off of wearing it and I was fine. Now I don’t even notice it.

Overall, the amount of real-time data and insights you get goes above and beyond any health app I’ve seen, and for no monthly fee is unreal. My girlfriend has an Oura ring and I used to be jealous, but it seems like she’s always charging it and does not have as in depth of health metrics as I do.

I would personally take the Gen 3 RingConn Smart Ring over an Oura ring or my Apple Watch any day. Definitely worth a look.
