Welsh City Hall is located at 112 S Adams St. (Special to the American Press)

Residents now have a new way to stay connected with the Town of Welsh through a free mobile app designed to make municipal information and services more accessible.

Town Clerk Renee Hicks said the app gives residents convenient access to town services directly from their smartphones while helping the town keep pace with changing technology.

“Everybody uses their phone now,” Hicks said. “It’s just kind of an app that’s more reliable about paying your utility bills or your traffic citation.”

Available through the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, the Town of Welsh LA app allows residents to pay utility bills and traffic citations, receive notifications about outages, and view council meeting agendas and other town information.

Residents also can use the app to report minor issues, such as burned-out streetlights, without having to call the town office.

The app is expected to serve as a centralwn calendar, giving residents easier access to activities, events, and municipal services

Hicks said the app is intended to provide another communication option for residents, particularly those who may not use Facebook or have regular access to a computer.

“It helps cut down” on reliance on traditional phone calls and other forms of communication, she said.

The town has been working on the app since March. Hicks said officials wanted to provide residents with a simple, convenient way to access information and services.

While the app can be used to report minor concerns, Hicks stressed that it is not intended to replace emergency or after-hours reporting. Residents should continue contacting the police department for outages or other problems requiring immediate attention, particularly outside regular town office hours.

The app is free to download and designed to be easy to navigate.

Residents can search for Town of Welsh LA in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store to download the app and begin accessing the available services and information.
