A new TrendForce report shows that Apple saw a 14% year-over-year increase in smartphone production during Q2 2026, reaching a 19% share of global production, second only to Samsung. Here are the details.
Market-wide decline less steep than previously predicted
In a report published today, TrendForce says Apple produced approximately 52 million iPhone units during Q2 2026, a 14% increase from the year-ago period.
Global smartphone production for the period, however, dropped 8% year over year to 275 million units. The decline was “narrower than previously forecast, resulting in better-than-expected overall performance,” says TrendForce.
In light of the new numbers, TrendForce revised its 2026 forecast, raising its global smartphone production estimate to 1.07 billion units, up from 1.05 billion in a previous report. If confirmed, that would represent a 14% year-over-year decline, compared with the 16% drop previously forecast.
Apple’s performance was second only to Samsung, which produced 62 million smartphones during Q2 2026, a 7% year-over-year increase, accounting for 23% of global production.
After Apple, Oppo came in third with 30 million units and an 11% share (down 17% year over year), followed by Xiaomi with 29 million units and 10% share (-32%), vivo with 21 million units and 8% share (-18%), and Transsion with 20 million units and 7% share (-27%).

Growth was primarily driven by the effective pricing strategy of the iPhone 17 series, which supported strong sales performance through the first three quarters.
The report added that “price increases for the upcoming iPhone 18 series appear inevitable, making their potential impact on sales momentum a key factor to watch.”
Finally, TrendForce also noted that its upward revision for the whole of 2026 reflects consumers buying smartphones earlier than planned and manufacturers reversing some of their previous aggressive production cuts, rather than an increase in underlying demand.
