Santander has gone down in a major outage.
Customers were unable to get online through its app and online banking services, as well as being unable to call their bank.
Santander said it was aware of the problem and was working to get back online.
“We’re aware that some customers are currently experiencing issues accessing our Online Banking and Mobile Banking services, as well as our telephone and chat support channels,” it said in a post to affected customers.
“We’re very sorry for the disruption this is causing and are working hard to restore services as quickly as possible. Thank you for <a href="https://myappsplus.com/your-old-gpu-could-be-worth-more-than-you-think/” title=”Your old GPU could be worth more than you think”>your patience while we work to resolve this.”
It gave no information about either the cause of the problem or when it would be fixed, despite insistent questions from customers.
Santander was hit by a run of complaints on social media from customers who said they were unable to access their own money. Some said they had been left unable to make important transfers, or that they had found themselves stuck after needing to move money between their accounts and not being able to do it.
The problems started around 11.30am local UK time, according to tracking website Down Detector. They appeared to be affecting customers right across the country.
Santander said earlier this year that it has 13.6 million active customers in the UK in 2025, down slightly on the previous year. It looks after around £184 billion in customer deposits, in addition to its mortgages and other products.
