Gamers on the lookout for a capable gaming laptop with a powerful CPU will likely have the Asus ROG Strix lineup on their radars.
This specific variant of the laptop also features an FHD 165 Hz IPS display, 16 GB of RAM, and 1 TB of SSD storage.
We did get a chance to review a slightly higher-tier variant of the laptop with the RTX 5080 GPU and Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU. Both CPU and GPU performance kept up with their class averages, maintaining decent sustained performance.

Therefore, it is quite likely that the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti-equipped variant, which happens to be on sale, will also perform about as well as we’d expect the GPU to perform in most scenarios. According to our database, the RTX 5070 Ti Laptop GPU, on average, is roughly 20% faster than the RTX 5070 Laptop GPU and sports 12 GB of GDDR7 VRAM, as opposed to 8 GB.
The 16-core AMD Ryzen 9 8940HX “Dragon Range” CPU belongs to the aging Zen 4 fleet but manages to stay within a 5% range of the Core Ultra 9 275HX in most synthetic benchmarks. In simpler terms, raw CPU and GPU performance should not be an issue on the Strix G16 laptop.
The specific variant on sale features an FHD IPS display with a peak refresh rate of 165 Hz. Asus claims 100% coverage of the sRGB color gamut, and response times of 3 ms. Our test unit of the G16 gaming laptop was equipped with a QHD display with 240 Hz refresh rate, but it did live up to Asus’s claims of 100% coverage of the sRGB color gamut.

Both the RAM and SSD are user-upgradable, courtesy of dual SO-DIMM and dual M.2 PCIe Gen 4 slots. I/O options include:
- Dual USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports
- Dual USB 4 Type-C ports (with DisplayPort)
- 2.5G LAN
- HDMI
- 3.5 mm audio jack
At its current discounted price, the Asus ROG Strix G16 gaming laptop offers compelling performance at a relatively reasonable price point, especially when considering that it is still unclear how much longer the insanity surrounding DRAM and NAND prices will last.
