Running a business in the midst of changes in people’s lifestyles makes someone need to keep learning. The habits of consumers who are increasingly close to technology, for example, also change the way people find food, choose products, to determine where to buy

Simple changes in daily life have also influenced the way business actors carry out their activities. They are not only required to maintain product quality, but also need to understand customer habits, manage finances more carefully, and be open to technology that can help daily work.

This is one of the lessons that emerged in the series of Special Officer (Temu Ramah Sapa and Sharing Entrepreneurship Association) Special Anniversary 2026 in 10 cities in Indonesia, namely Medan, Bandung, Palembang, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Denpasar, Makassar, Balikpapan, and Jakarta.

This agenda takes place throughout August to early September 2026 in commemoration of National MSME Day (12 August) and Financial Literacy Month 2026 initiated by the Financial Services Authority (OJK), this year’s series reaches 1,400 GrabMerchant Partners.

Instead of just talking about how to develop a business, this activity also provides a space for business actors to learn practical things that are close to their routines.

One of them is how to understand changes in consumer behavior. As more people search for information through digital channels, business actors also need to know how customers find a product and what makes them finally interested in trying.

For Adli Abu Abdillah, owner of Geprek Yuksss in Makassar, understanding customers also goes hand in hand with the courage to try something different. He developed existing menus and tried to present new options through bundling products.

“Initially we were looking for an effective way to get more buyers. After trying GrabAds, it turns out that the number of customers is increasing. The more customers make us realize that they could be lost if we don’t innovate. Maybe people think innovation has to start from scratch, but one of the things we do is to be creative with existing menus and collaborate to create interesting bundling products, one of which is with Coca-Cola. After this strategy was implemented together with other strategies, such as the Diskon Puas discount promotion and data optimization, we managed to grow revenue by more than 120%.’, said Adli Abu Abdillah.

The experience shows that innovation does not always have to mean creating something completely new. In everyday life, small changes such as reprocessing existing menus, offering different product combinations, or looking back at customer responses can also be a way to adapt.

Another thing that is no less close to daily life is how to manage finances. For business owners, the seemingly large income does not necessarily indicate the actual financial condition.

There is a need to buy materials, pay for operations, set aside funds, and prepare for needs that may arise later.

The ability to understand cash flow is an important part of learning. Simple habits such as knowing how much money is spent and how much is earned can help a person be wiser before making the next decision.

Lindawati, owner of Capcay Fried Rice Mimo Shop in Surabaya, felt it after attending an educational session.

“Running a business is not just about how sales are getting more crowded, but also how we can manage finances and make the right decisions for the business. After following Teras Perwira, I have a clearer picture of how to manage business needs and choose the right funding to develop the business. GrabModal Mantul is one of the options I can consider because the process is fast with light installments, so it can be adjusted to the business’s ability. I also learned how to use GrabAds to help promote the business,” said Lindawati.

On the other hand, technological developments make the learning process more extensive. Various digital features can now help business actors read data, recognize purchase patterns, make promotions, and complete administrative work.

Technology so far is still a tool. But business owners still need to understand their own needs and determine which technology is really relevant.

In that regard, Roy Nugroho, Director of Commercial, Grab Indonesia said, “In the midst of increasingly diverse consumer choices, the challenge for merchants is not only to present relevant products, but also to ensure that the products are easy to find and reach the right consumers.

“Merchants need to understand consumer trends and behavior, increase product visibility, innovate through collaboration, and utilize data and technology such as GrabAds and GrabMerchant’s AI Assistant. Through the Teras Perwira this year, we have equipped GrabMerchant Partners with practical insights to help them run and grow their businesses more intelligently, adaptively, and sustainably,” he concluded.

The habit of continuing to learn is slowly becoming part of the daily lives of business actors. Because, in the midst of rapid changes, the ability to adapt does not always have to start with a big step.

Often, it starts with something as simple as listening to customers, being brave to try something different, and understanding how technology can be used to make everyday activities easier.
