The big three US carriers now form a sort of monolith in the minds of customers, but there was a time when they really managed to differentiate themselves, largely thanks to their advertising. T-Mobile’s involved its hard-to-ignore magenta shade and its even harder-to-ignore CEO John Legere, who tirelessly promoted the “un-carrier.” But Legere hasn’t been at the helm since 2020 and T-Mobile has undone a lot of the policies he put in place. So we asked our readers: Is T-Mobile still worth it in 2026?

Out of 1,423 of you who responded, 53% said no, not really.

For some, it was directly tied to Legere leaving, as was the case for markmccoskey:

Sadly, the Un-Carrier label left with John. I left T-Mobile just prior to the second price increase of my ONE Unlimited 55+, which they were also going to do away with US Mobile now.

Some of the things that disappeared or were seriously eroded after Legere were tax- and fee-inclusive pricing, legacy plans, and a price-lock guarantee.

But while Reggie Carmichael misses Legere, he appreciates that at least some of his improvements are still in place:

Lets not forget how bad it was until john legere showed up. Without him and T-Mobile, we would be paying contracts that would affect your credit score if you canceled. It was awful! So now, if they add a few charges here and there, I’m okay with it.

Legacy plans in particular have been a contentious point as some customers with them have been wary of being forcibly moved to updated plans, though T-Mobile maintains that the new plans match the price of old ones and improve the value.

Those legacy plans play a big role in the perception of T-Mobile, with 33% of survey respondents saying that the carrier is worth it for legacy plan holders.

But not all T-Mobile legacy plan holders are happy, with ones like windontree shopping elsewhere:

I have been a loyal TMO family plan customer since they were VoiceStream. My 3 kids have their own families and they have all left TMO recently. My wife and I have been on the senior plan for a decade now and very recently was forced out of my Magenta plan. I’ve tried to get my legacy plan back to now avail. Now looking for another carrier …. no turning back…

There are still big T-Mobile fans out there, even if they’re not in the majority of those who answered our poll. “Yes, absolutely!” was the enthusiastic answer of the 13% who think T-Mobile is still worth it.

The perks are what keeps lostrappoj as a customer:

I pay less with T-Mobile then I do with other carriers. I have three lines. The perks that I get with T-Mobile, I do not get with any other carrier. I get free Netflix, MLB and $3 for Apple TV. That alone makes me want to stay with T-Mobile. Plus, I got a new phone for free every two years. At least I have for the past 2 years lol.

While T-Mobile might disappoint the majority of those who once loved it, the carrier does still have some things to boast about. It’s far ahead of competitors when it comes to true 5G access for its customers and it currently holds the title of “Best mobile network overall” from Ookla.
