Apple reportedly plans more than 150 iPhone Duo demo units at its Fifth Avenue store for the Oct. 23 launch, with supply of the $1,999 foldable expected to stay tight.
Key Points:
- Apple’s Fifth Avenue store is reportedly set for more than 150 iPhone Duo demo units.
- Supply of the $1,999 foldable is expected to stay limited after its Oct. 23 release.
- One analyst expects 6 million units to ship in 2026.
iPhone Duo Demo Units
Mark Gurman, a journalist who covers Apple, reported the plans Sunday in his weekly newsletter.
The Fifth Avenue flagship in New York will devote a section to the phone and should get more than 150 units for customer tryouts and in-store displays, while the Apple Park Visitor Center gets nearly 100. Stores on Chicago’s Michigan Avenue, at The Grove in Los Angeles and on Manhattan’s Upper West Side will each receive roughly 30 to 40.
Other locations will get about 20 units each on average, and most will add an extra spotlight table for the company’s first foldable iPhone. Apple has also designed a MagSafe stand that holds an open Duo beside two conventional iPhones, along with a new fixture that shows the device folding and unfolding.
Untethered demo phones will sit in display areas along the sides of stores so visitors can try the StandBy feature without a security cable. Store machines that update boxed iPhones wirelessly are also being adapted to add a buyer’s name to the startup greeting, offered in English or Spanish at U.S. locations. Preorders open Oct. 16 at 5 a.m. Pacific time.
Foldable iPhone Supply
Trying a Duo may prove easier than buying one.
About two months ago, Gurman wrote, Apple believed production constraints could keep the phone from going on sale until later in November. The company has since built enough inventory to go ahead with this month’s release, but stock is expected to remain limited. The 256GB model starts at $1,999 in the United States.
Jeff Pu Forecast
Jeff Pu, an analyst at GF Securities, cut his 2026 Duo shipment estimate to 6 million units from 7 million in mid-September, citing hinge constraints rather than weak demand. He expects Apple to ship 72 million iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max units this year.
Apple unveiled the Duo at its Sept. 9 event and set its release five weeks behind the iPhone 18 Pro line, which reached stores on Sept. 18. A person close to Foxconn‘s supply chain told a Chinese business outlet that final assembly yields were only slightly above 60% as of Sept. 17, and that a mature level could take six months to a year. The same report put Apple’s 2026 stocking target at 6 million to 8 million units.
