Google today announced “Home MCP” to let your personal AI agent interact with your smart home devices

This allows Google Antigravity, Claude, Hermes, OpenClaw, and any other agent that supports calling MCP tools to “interact with all of the devices and event history in the <a href="https://myappsplus.com/google-home-is-going-agentic-via-integration-with-the-mcp-standard/" title="Google Home is going agentic via integration with the MCP standard”>Google Home ecosystem.”

This includes Google Nest cameras and doorbells, Nest Thermostats, Matter light bulbs, and beyond. Example use cases include:

    • Cross-Camera Analysis: Ask your agent what the kids did when they got home from school, and it will provide a summary across all of your cameras of what they did and show you the clips
    • Analyze home history: Your agent can use your device state history to track how many loads of laundry were done in a week, or how long the lights were left on.
    • Interact with you via voice: If your agent is completing an asynchronous or proactive task,  it can send you an audio message over your Google Home speaker when it’s finished.
    • Build a dashboard: Your agent can build you a custom dashboard that provides a view of your smart home tailored just to you.

Google frames this as giving your agent “real-world physical context—allowing it to analyze and answer questions about home activity, summarize camera footage across rooms, manage devices on your behalf, or even create your own smart home dashboards using everyday language.”

On the security and privacy front, Home MCP “enforces rate limits and safety protections, such as prohibiting sensitive actions like unlocking doors.” Google cautions about how:

However, depending on your agent, connecting it to Home MCP can result in unexpected or even undesired behavior. Carefully review developer policies and terms of service.

As of today, Home MCP is rolling out for Google Home Premium Advanced users in US English. The setup process involves creating a Google Cloud project and then configuring it to use Home MCP.

…simply provide the MCP configuration details to your agent and ask it to set it up. Your agent will ask you to sign in and grant permissions. After that, you’re ready to go. For complete setup guides, visit the Google Home Developer Center.
