    A court ban for smart glasses and AI watermarks: eight technology stories you might have missed

    1. SRA warning about ‘AI-enabled impersonation techniques’ in client checks

    In its new sectoral risk assessment, the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) issued a warning about cyber fraud and the threat of ‘AI-enabled impersonation techniques’, including deepfakes, during anti-money laundering (AML) client checks.

    2. Anthropic to add AI watermarks in Claude outputs

    Machine-readable watermarks are to be added by Anthropic to AI tool Claude’s generated text to comply with the EU AI Act, reports TechCrunch.

    The company plans to roll out its new feature globally.

    Other companies such as Google, Meta, Microsoft and OpenAI have also agreed to comply with the EU’s AI transparency rules.

    3. Court ban for smart glasses with cameras

    HM Courts and Tribunals Service has banned smart glasses with cameras – such as those made by technology company Meta – in its courts.

    City AM reports on what wearable technology and the associated privacy concerns could mean for businesses.

    4. ‘Dozens’ of reports of potential misuses of AI in the legal profession, says SRA

    Forty-two reports were made about AI-related issues between July 2025 and July 2026, according to recent data from the SRA.

    Some of these include concerns about confidentiality, supervision and inaccurate legal citations, the Law Society Gazette reports.

    The regulator published a warning notice and guidance on the misuse of AI on 17 August 2026.

    6. Applications now open for AI Growth Lab

    Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade

    Law firms and other organisations that are developing or deploying AI in legal services are invited to take part in a new government-led legal sector ‘sandbox’ designed to help business create AI tools and navigate the existing regulatory framework.

    Applications are open until 27 September.

    8. Ethical use of AI to be covered by new online procedure code
