Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra finally dies in bend test, unlike past models [Video]

Despite their increasingly-thin designs, Samsung’s foldables have held up well to torture tests that include more bending than you’d ever see in real life. But it seems the Galaxy Z Fold 8 UItra might finally be too thin, as it’s the first mainstream Samsung foldable that’s died in a bend test.

The Galaxy Z Fold 7 showed that, yes, Samsung could actually make a thin foldable. And for good measure, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra pushes that a step further with another slight reduction in thickness.

In the usual torture test from YouTube channel JerryRigEverything, the Fold 8 Ultra holds up just about as well as anyone would expect. Durable outer display, easily scratching inside, and some deeply unsettling crunching noises when dust gets into the hinge. But it’s the bend test that’s out of the ordinary here.

Save for the very-limited Galaxy Z TriFold, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is the first of Samsung’s foldables to break during a bend test. It’s no spectacular failure, though. The hinge and frame both stay intact; the inner display just… dies.

It’s interesting that the Ultra fails here despite the wider Fold 8living through the same bend test.

Samsung’s new foldables are both available now:

    • Galaxy Z Fold 8
    • Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra
