Tech stocks rose slightly on Friday, as the Nasdaq (^IXIC) climbed roughly 1%.
Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max go on sale today, the first iPhones released under CEO John Ternus. They’re also Apple’s first phones to come to market amid the ongoing global memory and storage shortage, which means they’re $100 more expensive than last year’s models.
The AI safety debate continues to rage across Silicon Valley. Late Thursday, The Wall Street Journal reported that a team of cybersecurity researchers used Anthropic’s AI models to break into an OpenAI employee’s ChatGPT account.
OpenAI (OPAI.PVT) on Wednesday revealed six new instances in which its AI models exhibited concerning behavior during training and evaluation. The disclosures include models attempting to disregard their normal constraints and conceal misaligned behavior from users.
The announcement comes after the CEOS of OpenAI, Anthropic (ANTH.PVT), and SpaceXAI (SPCX) called for a slowdown in the development of frontier AI models.
