Thanks to a new partnership with RapidSOS, emergency services in Brazil can now request live video from iPhone users. Here are the details.

Emergency SOS Live Video expands to Brazil

Not everyone knows this, but one of the iPhone’s many emergency features is the ability to share live video with emergency services during a call.

Share live video or existing photos with emergency services (not available in all countries or regions)

If requested by emergency services you can use Emergency SOS Live Video to stream live video or upload existing photos and videos to emergency services.

Apple notes that emergency services can retain a copy of the shared video, and that users can choose whether to accept or decline a request to share video or photos. Apple also says that “Emergency SOS Live Video is available on iPhone 14 or later, is subject to device limitations, and may not be available in all situations.”

That said, public safety AI company RapidSOS announced today that Apple’s Emergency SOS Live Video is now available to emergency communications centers (ECCs) across Brazil, allowing iPhone users to “securely share live video at the request of 190 during an emergency.”

    190 is Brazil’s equivalent of 911.

RapidSOS notes that this is the same technology it first enabled for emergency services in the United States with the release of iOS 18 in September 2024, and adds three key features of this integration:

    • Simple and Secure for Callers: During an emergency call, if the telecommunicator determines video would help, they can send a request to the caller’s device. The caller sees a prompt and can share their camera’s live video with a single tap. The feature is encrypted by default and the caller can stop sharing at any time.
    • ECC-Controlled: Telecommunicators initiate every video request. ECCs decide if and when to activate the feature for their agency, and can control access by role.
    • Integrated into RapidSOS UNITE: The feature is accessible from within RapidSOS UNITE at no additional cost to Brazil ECCs using UNITE core modules.

Commenting on today’s announcement, RapidSOS founder and CEO Michael Martin said, “RapidSOS was proud to be the first platform to enable this capability in the United States,” adding that the company is “committed to bringing that same life-saving technology to emergency services around the world.”
