Counterpoint Research has released a new report examining the impact of the iPhone Duo on the foldable smartphone market, display suppliers, and the segment’s growth through 2030. Here are the details.
Apple to account for 27% of 2026 foldable panel shipments
In a new report published yesterday, Counterpoint Research outlines broadly similar expectations to those set by TrendForce for the iPhone Duo’s performance through the end of 2026.
According to Counterpoint, Apple is expected to account for 27% of foldable smartphone panel shipments in 2026, despite the iPhone Duo launching only next month.
Samsung, meanwhile, is expected to retain the top spot with a 33% share, following an 8% year-over-year increase in shipments. Huawei is forecast to rank third with a 25% share, two percentage points behind Apple, as its shipments decline 6%.
Looking further ahead, Counterpoint expects foldable panel shipments to grow 74% between 2026 and 2030, “equivalent to a compound annual growth rate of about 15%.”
The report notes that “Apple shipments are forecast to increase 167% from their H2-only 2026 base to 2030, lifting the brand’s share by about 15 percentage points to 42%,” while Samsung’s shipments are expected to grow 27%, even as its share falls to 24%. Huawei, in turn, is forecast to see shipments rise just 3%, with its share declining to 15%.
Finally, Counterpoint also forecasts how foldable panel shipments will break down across in-fold, multi-fold, and clamshell designs by 2030:
In-fold panel shipments are forecast to grow 79% from 2026 to 2030, raising their share from 81% to 84%. Multi-fold shipments are expected to increase 179%, lifting their share from 2.8% to 4.5%. Clamshell shipments are forecast to grow 27%, but their share would decline by about 4 percentage points to 12%.
