    • Anthropic has updated its usage policy to prohibit repeated, unnecessary abuse or cruelty toward its AI models.
    • The policy targets extreme, deliberate abuse, not everyday frustration, criticism, disagreements, or legitimate AI testing.
    • Claude can end abusive conversations as the primary enforcement measure, but the policy doesn’t explicitly mention banning users.

We’ve all had moments when an AI tool gets something so wrong that we can’t help but lose our patience. Maybe it keeps misunderstanding a simple question, confidently gives you incorrect information, or refuses to follow instructions you’ve repeated several times. Getting frustrated is understandable, but what if you deliberately keep insulting the chatbot for no reason? Well, Anthropic now has a policy that addresses exactly that, and it’s quite interesting.

Jane Manchun Wong recently shared a screenshot on X revealing an addition to Anthropic’s usage policy. The company has introduced rules against repeatedly directing unnecessary abuse or cruelty toward its AI models, including Claude. Essentially, Anthropic wants to discourage people from deliberately mistreating its chatbot when their behavior has no real purpose.
