Call of Duty: Warzone has had a pretty long run on PS4 and Xbox One, considering both consoles are well over a decade old. Unfortunately, the battle royale action on these consoles appears to be coming to an end, as Activision officially shut down Warzone on November 6.
The shutdown was announced back in May, when Activision had already decided to leave both consoles behind for Modern Warfare 4. Warzone players were allowed to continue playing until Black Ops 7 Season 06 ended. For anyone who hasn’t upgraded their console yet, that deadline has now passed.
What about all those unlocked weapons and cosmetics?
With every new Call of Duty entry, Warzone receives major changes in engine, maps, and the gameplay itself. What’s most valuable for players is the sizable collection of unlocked content they have accumulated over years of play. Thankfully, <a href="https://support.activision.com/warzone-2/articles/warzone-platform-update” rel=”nofollow noopener” target=”_blank”>Activision says players can carry over their progression and items purchased using COD Points to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, or PC. However, they’ll need to use the same linked Activision account.
Unspent COD Points are a little more complicated. PlayStation balances can move from PS4 to PS5, and the same applies to Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. Switching between PlayStation and Xbox won’t transfer those points.
Why is Activision shutting down Warzone on older consoles?
Warzone may be free-to-play, but its updates are tied to the latest Call of Duty game. New weapons, progression systems, and other content from Modern Warfare 4 are now part of Warzone, beginning with Season 1, which dropped on November 6. Since Modern Warfare 4 wasn’t released for PS4 or Xbox One, Warzone unfortunately won’t be compatible with previous-gen consoles.
