In recent years, Macs had been getting more and more affordable. Cheaper starting points, more memory and storage per dollar, and the introduction of MacBook Neo. For the first time, Apple had started to become one of the best values on the market.
Unfortunately, Apple just drastically increased its pricesbecause of the ongoing memory shortage. Macs aren’t as appealing as they were a few weeks ago, that said, there’s still some decent deals out there – and if you’re in need of a new computer, I’d still say todays Macs are a good value against the rest of the computing market.
MacBook Air
Up until the launch of MacBook Neo, the MacBook Air represented the entry point to Apple’s laptop lineup. Despite MacBook Neo making its value proposition slightly questionable, I’d still say MacBook Air is a great laptop if you want a better experience without needing anything premium.
MagSafe, a P3 color display, Center Stage on the webcam, and more battery life are just a few of the highlights with MacBook Air. It also comes with a 15-inch size variant, unlike MacBook Neowhich only offers 13-inch.

MacBook Neo
This product doesn’t need a long explanation – MacBook Neois Apple’s first affordable MacBook, coming in at just $699.
It has some compromises compared to the aforementioned MacBook Air, but it’s still incredibly good for the price. Build quality, display sharpness, and the macOS experience are all essentially uncompromised. Sure, you have to deal with a slower A18 Pro chip (though trust me, it’s no slouch), lesser ports, and 8GB of memory, but it’s perfectly reasonable for the price. It also comes in fun colors like Citrus, Blush, and Indigo.
There’s no notable retail discounts on MacBook Neo right now, though Apple does offer them refurbished for $100-120 off compared to retail pricing. Apple refurbished offers the same 1 year warranty and a like-new experience, with every major component being replaced. You won’t find any scuffs nor battery degradation.

MacBook Pro
At the top of the lineup is MacBook Pro. You get the best of the best, though there is one major caveat. Apple is reportedly redesigning the high-end variants of MacBook Pro later this year with OLED, touchscreens, and thinner designs.
That redesign will only debut with the M5 Pro and M5 Max chip, though – so if you’re someone buying the base model with the M5 chip, you’re still in the clear to buy a new MacBook today. Same applies if you don’t care about the redesign at all, since M5 Pro and M5 Max are still incredible new chips.
