TCL has launched a new tablet using its NXTPAPER display tech, with the TCL Tab A1 NXTPAPER now available for a reasonable price, but with a questionable chipset choice.

Expanding on the existing Tab A1 line, TCL’s new 11-inch models offer NXTPAPER and non-NXTPAPER versions that share essentially the same specs and design. The only difference is that the NXTPAPER version has a matte finish to the display while also including a compatible stylus.

The TCL Tab A1 (11-inch) duo offers up an 11-inch, 2112×1320 90Hz display which has a 16:10 aspect ratio. Both tablets run Android 16 out of the box, an 8,000 mAh battery, and 6GB of RAM with 128GB of storage (and a microSD card slot).

It’s all powered by the MediaTek Helio G100 chipset, a low-cost chip that debuted in 2024 as a very minor upgrade to the Helio G99 that launched back in 2022. It probably makes for a perfectly usable tablet, but it does seem a little underpowered, at least on the NXTPAPER version that sells for as much as $299. You probably won’t see that price often, though, as TCL is selling the Tab A1 NXTPAPER on itsown website for $249, and on Amazon for $229. The non-NXTPAPER version can be had for $179 through TCL’s website or on Amazon.
