Sony has detailed what’s new in its Android 17 update, but only five Xperia phones are going to be getting it as of now.

In an overview posted to its website in the UK, Sony gives an overview of what’s new in its Android 17 update. The company explains:

With Android 17, you can now use Desktop mode with an external display on supported Xperia models. Customization options have been expanded for the Quick settings panel, Lock screen, and Home screen. Android 17 also makes screen recording easier. Together, these updates provide a more efficient and seamless experience when using your Xperia.

Most of the new features here are similar to what you’re getting on Pixel in Android 17. Desktop mode when hooked up to a monitor, updates to icon and homescreen themes, upgraded screen recording, and more customizable Quick Settings too.

Sony’s only exclusive feature is “Custom looks” on the Xperia 1 VIII, which works similar to Google’s “Camera Looks” on Pixel 11. You can customize how the camera processes images in terms of color tones and other aspects, with Sony letting you save three presets.

Android 17 is rolling out now to Sony devices, but only on a select few models. Sony only lists five devices getting the update:

    • Xperia 1 VIII
    • Xperia 1 VII
    • Xperia 1 VI
    • Xperia 10 VIII
    • Xperia 10 VII

Xperia 1 VIII users are already seeing the rollout reaching their devices.

    More on Sony:

    • Sony WH-1000XM4C launch for $299 alongside two more affordable headphones
    • Sony’s new ULT Tower party speakers start at $450
    • Sony Xperia 1 VIII packs a redesign, flagship specs, microSD, 3.5mm jack from €1,500
