Microsoft resolves issues after software updates

Microsoft is struggling with various problems with its Windows and other software updates and is now making further corrections. The developers now describe most of the side effects since August as resolved, and for others, they mention countermeasures that provide relief. The status display of Microsoft Defender is now also back on track.

Last Monday, issues with Remote Desktop Services, USB audio, and shared host folders for virtualization became known, among others. Additionally, Windows Defender updates from early August could cause the protection status to be incorrectly displayed as deactivated. Microsoft had already resolved several of these unwanted patch day side effects with an emergency Windows update last week.

Towards the end of last week, Microsoft finally released updates for Windows Defender that correct the incorrect display “Microsoft Defender is turned off.” The programmers explain this in the Windows Release Health notes. All still supported versions of Windows desktop and server operating systems were affected by this until then.

Another entry regarding disrupted RDP sessions due to issues with Remote Desktop Services (RDS) was also updated on that date, but it only indicates the already known status that the emergency update resolves the problem; administrators do not need to do anything further after its installation, even if they had previously taken temporary countermeasures using Group Policies.

With the current status, Microsoft therefore considers the side effects and issues caused by Windows and other software updates to be essentially addressed. However, not everything is completely resolved yet: USB audio class 1 devices may continue to fail with error code 10 or produce no sound at all. Microsoft is still working on a solution for this.

For systems where the display of the mouse cursor was no longer as desired and could no longer be changed, Microsoft also released an unscheduled update the weekend before last. The error apparently only affected non-English regional settings.
