Tech giant Amazon is conducting negotiations to acquire Israeli artificial intelligence startup Decart for approximately $7 billion, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing sources familiar with the details. According to the report, negotiations between the parties are advanced and the deal could be signed soon, but it has not yet been finalized and the possibility remains that talks could fail or another potential buyer could enter.

If the deal goes through at the reported valuation, it would become one of the largest exits in the history of Israeli high-tech and one of Amazon’s largest acquisitions in recent years, alongside its acquisition of MGM studios in 2022 for about $6.5 billion and its announcement this year of the acquisition of Globalstar for approximately $11 billion. The price also reflects a jump of roughly 75% in the company’s valuation compared to last May, when it was valued at about $4 billion.

The report of negotiations with Amazon comes about a month after a deal failed for the acquisition of the company by Anthropic, developer of the Claude chatbot, for about $6 billion, from which Anthropic withdrew after due diligence. Prior to that, Decart’s founders rejected an acquisition offer from Nvidia, preferring Anthropic’s offer, which was made in stock.

Decart was founded in 2023 by brothers Dean and Orian Leitersdorf and Moshe Shalev, and operates from San Francisco. The company has so far raised more than $400 million from leading venture capital funds, including Sequoia Capital, Benchmark, and Radical Ventures.

Decart’s core technology enables artificial intelligence models to run efficiently and transition easily between chips from different manufacturers, a capability in high demand amid the global race to obtain computing power and efforts to reduce reliance on Nvidia chips. In addition, the company develops “world models,” including Lucy and Oasis, which enable the creation and simulation of interactive three-dimensional environments and real-time video while cutting costs.

The connection between Amazon and Decart is not new: The companies cooperate in the chip sector, and Amazon has become a strategic client of the startup. Already in 2025, Amazon’s cloud computing division, AWS, granted Decart early access to Trainium3, an artificial intelligence chip it developed. For Amazon, the acquisition could bolster its efforts to promote alternatives to Nvidia chips and expand the company’s AI infrastructure.
