Partnership with Development Bank of the Philippines Data Center will be key in the app’s success.
The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) has confirmed it wants to roll out its app which promotes licensed igaming operators in December.
Offering more details on the app, following the initial reveal of plans for the software in August, PAGCOR noted a newly formed partnership with Development Bank of the Philippines Data Center (DCI) will be pivotal to the app’s success.
The app is part of PAGCOR’s efforts to crack down on the illegal market.
PAGCOR reveals details of igaming operator app
Before full-scale implementation of the app, the Data Center subsidiary of the Development Bank of the Philippines must present a proof of concept for evaluation and acceptance by PAGCOR.
PAGCOR said the six-month assessment will iron out the platform’s proposed features, system architecture, security controls and overall feasibility.
The regulator said it has the right to terminate the agreement if DCI “fails to address deficiencies identified during the evaluation period within a reasonable time.”
DCI will then handle the development, operation and maintenance of the platform once it is fully live.
The partnership between PAGCOR and DCI will run for an initial period of five years.
PAGCOR said it is also working with the Department of Information and Communications Technology, the National Telecommunications Commission and the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordination Center to “strengthen efforts against illegal online gambling operators.”
The regulatory body, which is expecting a decision “very soon” on its proposal to separate out its casino operator role, said its board of directors approved the app’s development and implementation on October 8.
