Android 17 is the latest Android version, and some of us might already be running it through One UI 9 or waiting for the update to arrive. But how many Android devices are actually running the latest version? Google has updated its Android distribution numbers, giving us a look at how adoption is progressing.
According to the latest figures (h/t 9to5Google), Android 17 is installed on just 1% of active Android devices. The data is current as of October 19, roughly four months after Google released the update for Pixel phones. In other words, only 1% of Android users are running the Android 17.
Android 16 accounts for more than 25% of active Android devices, making it the most widely used version. That’s a considerable jump from the 7.5% share recorded in Google’s previous update around December 2025 and January 2026.
Android 17’s 1% share doesn’t tell the whole story, though. Major manufacturers, including Samsung, have only started rolling out their Android 17-based updates widely in recent weeks. Their devices are unlikely to be reflected in Google’s latest figures yet.
Android 11 still has a sizeable user base
Android 11 continues to account for more than 10% of active devices, while Android 12 has dropped to 9.6%. Google has also dropped Android 5 from its distribution chart, although Android 5.1 still accounts for 0.2% of devices.
Interestingly, Android 11 has maintained a share above 10% across several recent updates. Meanwhile, Android 16 has already managed to take a sizeable lead over older versions.
