Nothing OS 5.0 beta based on Android 17 has begun rolling out, but you might see an error because the demand for the new beta is “more than expected.”

Nothing OS 5.0 won’t fully launch in a public release until October. The company’s version of Android 17 packs in a few important changes to the UI, like homescreen transparency updates and new lockscreen clock faces. The phones will also support Google’s new 3D emoji and get new apps.

You can read our coverage of the full release announcement for more information.

The Android 17 build packed into Nothing OS 5.0 has officially gone into its open beta rollout, meaning users can download the software and try it out before all of the bugs are ironed out. The Nothing Phone (3) will be the first device to get access. Nothing’s Phone (4a) Pro will be up next in early September, with more to follow through December.

Nothing’s timeline puts the official release at “mid” October for the Phone (3). Other devices will need to wait until November, at least.

But the current beta build, while technically available, has already caused some issues. According to Nothing co-founder Akis Evangelidis, who posted an update on Twitter/X, the company is seeing an “overwhelming response” to the new beta release. He says some users are seeing error messages related to the new beta.

It sounds like users are getting these errors when trying to download the update, not with the installation itself. Bugs are common with beta software, but this seems more like a bandwidth issue on Nothing’s part than any Phone (3) downloading the Android 17 update.

The company says a fix is being applied, so it might be a short-lived blip during the initial Android 17/Nothing OS 5.0 beta phase.
