Nothing CEO Carl Pei has shared a message aimed at iPhone users in the US through a video posted on Instagram. In it, Pei argues that for many Americans, the iPhone is no longer a product they choose but one they stay with out of habit. He does not ask users to leave Apple entirely. Instead, he suggests trying a single product from outside Apple’s ecosystem, with Nothing’s own headphones positioned as that first step.
Pei opened by saying he understood the appeal of the iPhone, adding that he had used one himself in the past. He acknowledged that Apple’s products were once among the most exciting in the world.
However, he said that for many people today, the iPhone has turned into a default option. According to Pei, users hold on to it because their photos and messages are stored there and because their texts appear as blue bubbles. When their contract ends, they simply move to the next model.
Pei said this kind of loyalty is not the same as genuinely loving a product.
Why Pei is pitching headphones
Rather than recommending a full switch, Pei suggested starting small with headphones. He said Nothing’s headphones work with the iPhone and carry Apple’s Made for iPhone and iPad certification, which means they are built to meet Apple’s compatibility standards.
Pei framed headphones as a possible entry point that could show iPhone users there are alternatives beyond Apple’s lineup. His message ended with the line that there is a whole other world out there for Americans who have only used the iPhone.
The video adds to Nothing’s efforts to build visibility among US consumers, where Apple holds a strong position in the smartphone market. By focusing on an accessory that works with Apple devices, the company is targeting iPhone users without asking them to give up their phones.
