Millions of Tesla Owners Are About to Get a Software Update That Lets The Car Intervene and Steer Even If They Never Turned on Full Self-Driving.

    Quick Read

    • Tesla’s v14.3.9 update gives TSLA vehicles authority to steer away from imminent collisions, even if the driver never activated Full Self-Driving.

    • Two days before amplifying the FSD rollout, Musk endorsed slowing AI development, a contradiction Barron’s flagged as TSLA stock fell 18% year to date.

    • FSD subscribers reached 1.48 million, up 56% year over year, as Tesla uses emergency interventions to expose non-subscribers to software they can then monetize monthly.

    • Just released. Our analysts combed the entire stock market and named the ten best stocks to buy right now, and Tesla didn’t make the cut. Enter your email to see the names that beat TSLA. The report is free. Enter your email and see if any of your stocks made the cut.

Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) is pushing a software update that hands its cars a new kind of authority. Tesla AI announced on Sep 4, 2026 that “FSD Supervised v14.3.9 starting to roll out shortly” would include a new active safety feature set, saying “FSD Supervised can now activate on your behalf when an imminent collision is detected and Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) may not be enough.”

In plain English, the car can take the wheel to avoid a crash even if the driver never engaged Full Self-Driving that trip. On Sep 14, 2026, Elon Musk retweeted the Tesla AI post, and that amplification reached nearly 500,000 impressions, putting the intervention feature squarely in front of the installed base.

Why Tesla Wants Every Car Acting Like an FSD Car

The business case is already visible in the numbers. In Q2 2026, roughly 55% of Tesla deliveries in North America had an FSD subscription enabled at the time of delivery, and paid FSD customers globally reached nearly 1.5 million. Active FSD subscriptions climbed 56% year over year to 1.48 million.

Musk framed FSD as the product on the Q2 call:

Why Didn’t TSLA Make The Top 10 List?

And TSLA didn’t make the cut!

The report is free, and you can see why we think each stock is a top investment today.

“I think for a lot of people, they’re actually buying Tesla full self-driving with a car attached as opposed to a car with FSD.”

CFO Vaibhav Taneja added that FSD is “one of the key factors for vehicle demand.” Giving non-subscribers a taste of what the software can do, even as an emergency intervention, funnels straight into that monetization flywheel. Tesla is transitioning FSD access to monthly subscriptions only, so exposure matters.
