iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max will have the same screen sizes as their predecessors, but rumors indicate their displays will be upgraded in two other ways. Here’s what’s coming.

    #1: LTPO+ technology

LTPO is the technology that has long powered the iPhone’s Always-On and ProMotion display features. And in iPhone 18 Pro, Apple is rumored to be moving to the more advanced LTPO+.

Conventional LTPO applies oxide materials to switching thin-film transistors (TFTs). LTPO+ extends oxide usage to driving TFTs as well, enabling finer current control for OLED light emission and allowing displays to optimize operation based on surrounding conditions and user environments, improving battery efficiency.

Benefits of LTPO+ include reduced screen flickering in low-light environments thanks to more responsive adjustments, plus improved power efficiency. Thus, iPhone 18 Pro users should enjoy even more consistent display performance at a lower battery cost.

    #2: Reduced Dynamic Island cutout

iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max’s displays are also expected to have a reduced Dynamic Island cutout. Thus, the useable screen space will expand slightly.

The new Dynamic Island is rumored to be about 35% smaller than what iPhone 17 Pro offers. This size is even hinted at already by iOS 27 in Siri’s new design.

Apple debuted the Dynamic Island on iPhone 14 Pro back in 2022. While software features related to the Dynamic Island and Live Activities have expanded over time, the physical cutout has remained unchanged.

With iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, Apple is finally moving a step closer to the dream of a cutout-free display.

What other changes do you hope to see in future iPhone displays? Let us know in the comments.
