    TL;DR

    • Magisk developer John Wu shared a video demonstrating full root access on Googlebook OS, seemingly without requiring host-machine tethering or specialized debug cables.
    • Previously, there were concerns that rooting Googlebooks could need specialized debug cables to connect to host machines. Googlebook OS also broke Magisk’s single-primary-user assumptions, so a fix was in the works.
    • Wu hasn’t released a step-by-step public guide or ready-to-use Magisk build for Googlebook OS just yet, but these could be right around the corner.

Rooting Google’s new Googlebook laptops won’t be the headache power users were dreading. Magisk developer John Wu previously teased Magisk coming to Googlebook OS, and now the developer has shared a video demonstrating that full root access can be achieved. More impressively, the process looks to be on-device so far, without seemingly requiring specialized hardware or host-machine tethering.

In a post on X, Wu wrote, “This is how you’ll root your Googlebook,” and shared a brief video that walks through the rooting workflow.
