At Android Dev Summit 2026, Google announced a Quick Share SDK that will let Android and iOS apps directly integrate the peer-to-peer file sharing capability.
The Quick Share SDK is coming in the first half of 2027. Developers will be able to integrate file share functionality directly into their apps instead of requiring users to first open the system Share sheet and launch the fullscreen Quick Share experience.
Google touts capabilities like:
- Privacy at its core with E2E data transfer: Quick Share is end-to-end encrypted “between both devices as the transfers happen between those local networks.”
- Low latency and maximum transfer speed: The SDK automatically handles hotspot creation and leverages Wi-Fi Direct on supported devices.
- No need to compress photos/videos
- Works offline even without cellular network: For offline sharing use cases and constrained data environments.
- No need to maintain costly infrastructure
Google will also offer a Quick Share iOS SDK for apps on the iPhone, as seen in the example below.
In terms of the end-user interface, activating Quick Share in third-party apps launches a bottom sheet “where the users will be able to see the files that are being sent as [a] preview.”
