Following last month’s addition of Gemini control, Google is rolling out a sizable Pixel Buds Pro, Pro 2, and Pixel Buds 2a firmware update.
The only feature exclusive to the Pixel Buds Pro 2 is Dynamic Active Noise Cancellation. Google will “automatically adjust audio or noise cancellation based on your ear seal.” This compensates for “subtle shifts” when the buds move in your ear.
The remaining features are available for the Pixel Buds Pro (2022), Pro 2 (2024), and 2a (2025). When these features were previewed in August, Google did not mention that the original Pro model would be getting this update.
With last month’s Pixel Buds companion app update, you can turn on Active Noise Cancellation, adjust EQ, and enable touch controls with Gemini voice commands.
During phone calls, Tap to Mute lets you mute and unmute the microphone by tapping the buds. This gesture requires a paired Pixel phone.
Pixel Buds can now auto-pause media playback when you fall asleep, which is determined by Pixel Watch sleep sensing. This will also disable touch gestures and silence notifications.
The final update is Enhanced Live Translate that allows you to “leave your phone in your pocket and start translating instantly with a simple touch on your earbuds.”
Whether you’re conversing with someone or using listening mode to stay aware of your surroundings in a foreign language, Pixel Buds work seamlessly with the Google Translate app to make on-the-go translation easier than ever.
Make sure you’re running the latest version of the Pixel Buds app, and be on the lookout for software release_6.144. Open the companion client and scroll down for More settings > Firmware update to check.
