PASADENA, Calif. (KABC) –Fans camped outside several Los Angeles-area Apple Stores on Friday as the company officially launched the new iPhone Duo, its first foldable smartphone.
The highly anticipated device marks Apple’s entry into the foldable phone market. When folded, the iPhone Duo is compact and designed to fit easily into a pocket. When opened, it transforms into a mini-tablet with a virtually crease-free display.
AIR7 video showed customers lined up around the block outside the Pasadena Apple Store ahead of its scheduled opening. Customers were also seen waiting outside the Apple Store at The Grove in Los Angeles and at the Apple Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica before doors opened.
With supplies limited on launch day, many customers waiting in lines around the world faced the possibility of leaving empty-handed. That included some people in Pasadena who camped out overnight for a chance to buy the device.

“You know you can kind of sense the energy around the launch. So everyone is gathered. It’s almost a community feel out here,” one person waiting in line said.
“We tried to pre-order it like online, weren’t able to get it. So now we are here and made some fun out of it,” another customer said.
The new technology comes with a starting price of just under $2,000.
