YouTube’s chat-styled AI search tool “Ask YouTube” is coming to mobile users. The feature was previously available only on the web and TVs, but the company is expanding it to mobile apps too. It remains limited to users in the US, with no confirmation of a global rollout.
Google brings Ask YouTube to more platforms
During Google I/O in May, Google introduced “Ask YouTube” as a reimagined, conversational search tool for YouTube. It allows users to ask complex queries and refine them with follow-up questions to find the most relevant content. Now, this capability is coming to YouTube apps on Android and iOS.
This expansion still doesn’t bring Ask YouTube to global users, though. It remains a US-only feature for now. Ask YouTube is also not yet available on supervised child accounts and the YouTube Kids app. Apple TV devices are not supported either.

On supported devices, users can access Ask YouTube through the search icon at the top-right of your screen. There’s a new Ask button available for you to invoke the AI tool. Tap it and start typing your query or use voice command to ask AI to find content of your choice.
Once a response is generated, you can read the text response by hovering over the video to peek at it. The video will start from the timestamp most relevant to your search. To further refine the search, you can select any suggested questions at the end of the response, or you can select “Ask a follow up” and continue with the conversation.
Hopefully, Google plans to roll out Ask YouTube widely soon.
