According to the joint statement from both <a href="https://myappsplus.com/ai-companies-are-preying-on-under-resourced-schools-students-say/” title=”AI Companies Are Preying on Under-Resourced Schools, Students Say”>companies, Aramco will contribute 9.9 billion Saudi riyals, equivalent to approximately $2.6 billion, this year, this financial contribution will not be the only one from the oil company. Aramco will also transfer digital assets, computing resources, and AI technologies. With this integration, Humain will be able to expand its operational capabilities and have more resources to develop its projects.
PIF will retain a 51 % stake, thus remaining the majority shareholder of the technology company, the transaction will also allow for the integration of investments in Aramco’s artificial intelligence and the sovereign wealth fund within the same business structure, facilitating the use of their respective resources and capabilities.
Humain seeks to expand its artificial intelligence infrastructure
Humain was launched in 2025, ahead of US President Donald Trump’s visit to Riyadh, and is backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund. Its strategy focuses on developing advanced artificial intelligence infrastructure, including the construction of state-of-the-art data centers, cloud computing platforms, and large-scale Arabic language models.
With these developments, Saudi Arabia seeks to strengthen its technological capabilities and gain a foothold in the international AI market. The incorporation of Aramco’s assets also represents a boost to these plans. The new resources will allow Humain to expand its computing capacity and accelerate the development of its technological projects.
The PIF highlights the integration of technological investments
Yazeed A. Al-Humied, deputy governor and director of investments for the PIF region of Middle East and North Africa (MENA), highlighted the opportunities that the integration of the AI investment portfolios of both organizations can generate, as he explained, this union will allow them to take advantage of synergies in areas such as talent development, technological advancement and the creation of intellectual property, the initiative also reflects Saudi Arabia’s interest in expanding its digital capabilities through strategic investments and the promotion of technology companies with international projection.
Aramco increases the role of artificial intelligence in its strategy
Aramco’s entry into Humain also reflects the growing role of digital technologies within the energy business. Amin Nasser, the oil company’s CEO, noted that the company has generated $11.3 billion in value from its technology investments since 2023, indicating that a significant portion of that result comes from the application of AI solutions.
The executive also highlighted the importance this technology will have in the future development of businesses. For Aramco, AI offers applications in different areas of activity, from its energy operations to the management of its resources. Its investment in Humain expands its participation in the technology sector and allows it to be directly involved in the development of specialized infrastructure.
The costs of building data centers present a challenge
Despite the growth prospects, Saudi Arabia also faces the high costs of building large computing facilities. Analysts consulted by AGBI noted that the war in Iran is making data center construction in the country more expensive.
Added to this are the estimates from S&P Global, which place Saudi Arabia among the markets with the highest construction costs for these facilities between now and 2030, in August, the firm calculated an average cost of approximately $13 million per megawatt, a figure similar to that estimated for North America.
For reference, costs reached about $12 million per megawatt in Europe and $11 million in the United Arab Emirates, these differences highlight one of the challenges facing the Saudi market how developing large-scale AI infrastructure and maintaining the competitiveness of its investments against other international technology centers.
Aramco and the PIF strengthen their presence in Humain
The operation expands the stake of two of the main economic players in Saudi Arabia in the development of AI, the Saudi government owns 81.5 % of Aramco, while the PIF holds a 16 % stake, the remaining 2.5 % is held by minority investors.
On the stock market, Aramco shares closed Sunday at 25.92 Saudi riyals (SAR), up more than 8 % since the beginning of the year, with this investment, Aramco and the PIF are pooling financial and technological resources to boost Humain’s growth. The success of this strategy will depend on its ability to expand the computing infrastructure, develop AI models, and manage the high costs associated with building these facilities.
