Apple is set to release iOS 27.2 this month, bringing significant updates to core iPhone applications. The update extends the Dual Capture feature to Group FaceTime calls, allowing users to broadcast from both the front and rear cameras simultaneously. It also reintroduces Messages suggestions, an Apple Intelligence feature that was pulled before the iOS 27 launch due to contextual inaccuracies; beta testers report the feature now triggers only when clearly justified. Additional changes include viewer profiles in the Apple TV app with PG restrictions for children, new CarPlay Ultra themes, and a redesigned Podcasts interface. The redesigned Health app remains uncertain for this release and may be pushed to iOS 27.3. The beta also contains expanded Siri language support for five additional languages.

Apple's iOS 27.2 to Bring Dual Camera FaceTime and Revived Message Suggestions

Apple Inc. (AAPL) is preparing to roll out iOS 27.2 to iPhone users this month, a software update that expands the camera capabilities of Group FaceTime calls and restores a context-driven suggestion feature in the Messages app that was pulled just before the initial release of iOS 27.

Developers have been testing the new operating system since September 16, with Apple skipping a public release of iOS 27.1 to reserve that version for the upcoming foldable iPhone Duo, which is slated for an October 23 launch. The beta cycle has revealed a host of refinements, including anniversary alerts that surface when calling a contact, new themes for CarPlay Ultra, and a redesigned Podcasts home screen that separates the Up Next queue into New Episodes and Continue Playing sections.

The most notable hardware-centric addition is the extension of Dual Capture to group conversations. Previously limited to one-on-one video calls, the feature allows a user to transmit feeds from both the front and rear cameras simultaneously, enabling participants to show their face while also displaying their surroundings. In the Apple TV application, the update introduces viewer profiles that restrict child accounts to PG-rated content by default.

    Return of Messages Suggestions

The update marks the return of Messages suggestions, an Apple Intelligence feature designed to streamline task management. The system analyzes the context of a conversation and places one-tap action buttons beneath relevant texts. If a user mentions a specific date, the software can offer to add the event to Calendar; if a request is made, it can suggest creating a reminder or a note.

Apple had removed the feature from the public version of iOS 27 shortly before its launch on September 14, stating that it would arrive in a future software update. Ryan Christoffel, a developer who has been testing the beta, noted that the summer iteration of the feature occasionally displayed prompts without a clear contextual trigger. In the current beta, he observed that prompts appear less frequently and are always justified by the conversation.

“There are fewer suggestions appearing in my Messages conversations. When I see them, it’s always obvious why they’re being suggested,” he wrote in an analysis of the beta.

Not all features found in the beta are guaranteed to ship. Apple unveiled a redesigned Health app at its September hardware event, reorganizing data into Insights, Longevity, and Browse tabs. However, the company may pull this specific redesign from the final iOS 27.2 build, with reports indicating it could instead debut in iOS 27.3 later this year.

The initial launch of iOS 27 on September 14 brought Siri AI to compatible devices, but Apple withheld two Apple Intelligence capabilities: the Messages suggestions and automated fixes for weak or compromised passwords. A subsequent patch, iOS 27.0.1, was released on September 28 to address initial bugs.

Apple has also committed to expanding Siri AI language support. French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish versions are already present in the iOS 27.2 beta and are expected to be made available to users in October.
