Google has begun rolling out Personal Intelligence for Gemini on Android Auto. With the update, the AI assistant can now tap into your connected Google apps to deliver more personalized responses on the go.
Personal Intelligence began rolling out in Gemini and AI Mode earlier this year. The feature is disabled by default and is available only to users over 18 with a personal Google account. You can set it up from the Gemini app or website by going to Settings > Personal Intelligence > Connected Apps.
On this page, choose the apps you’d like to share with Gemini. In Android Auto, Personal Intelligence can fetch information from Google apps such as Gmail, Google Calendar (grouped under Workspace), Photos, Maps, YouTube, and Search. Once you connect the apps in Gemini settings, they come with you into the car, Google says.
Using the shared additional context, Gemini skips generic replies to give you the exact details that matter. For example, Google says that if you’re on the way to the airport, you tap Gemini on your infotainment screen and ask for your flight’s gate and departure status. The assistant will then find your flight ticket in Gmail and run a separate search for flight status to provide both answers at once. This hands-free experience saves time by eliminating the need to find your ticket and search for details manually.
With the integration, Gemini can also be aware of your food preferences, scheduled appointments, and places you previously visited through looking at Photos. So, when you ask for directions to a restaurant, your doctor, or the car wash you last visited, you won’t have to repeat your preferences.
Personal Intelligence in Android Auto is currently available for users everywhere except the European Economic Area, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and Nigeria. The feature will be made available on cars with Google built-in “in the coming months,” the company added.
