- Nothing’s been rumored to be shifting towards an AI-first strategy, focusing on wearables and audio devices.
- CEO Carl Pei is now teasing some new AI hardware for next month, but only offering sparse detail.
- It sounds like the device will be screen-less, and there are some hints that it could be a note-taker or recorder.
Is there any bigger hype man in mobile tech these days than Nothing CEO Carl Pei? Pei is easily one of the most visible founders around, regularly starring in videos and posting to social media, responding to creators and just being a whole lot more present in the eyes of consumers than many of his peers. Now he’s using one of those platforms to tease his company’s “first AI-native product” — and it could be here sooner than you’d think.
Over on X, Pei has published a bit of a think piece about the evolution of consumer technology, looking at how first the personal computer, and then the mobile revolution were led by business adoption, before trickling down to the masses. With AI, he thinks we’re still in that first phase, and the “killer device” that will define the true arrival of the AI hardware era is still taking shape in minds of engineers. And while that’s still probably years off, Nothing’s not wasting any time getting a head start.
