Apple Music is getting a new karaoke feature that lets users record themselves singing along to their favourite songs, with Selfie Sing making its first appearance in the iOS 27.3 beta.

The feature was first spotted by Aaron Perris, who shared an early demonstration on X. It builds on the existing Apple Music Sing feature, which allows users to lower a song’s original vocals and follow along with on-screen lyrics. Selfie Sing takes things further by adding video recording, letting users capture their own performances without leaving the Music app.

Using the feature appears fairly straightforward. When playing a compatible song on an iPhone running iOS 27.3, a new camera button appears beneath the vocal volume control. Tapping it opens a recording interface that captures video in a vertical format, making it particularly suited to sharing clips on social media.

There are a few limitations, though. Selfie Sing currently works only on iPhones, despite its dedicated playlist appearing on other Apple devices. Testing on an iPad Pro running iPadOS 27.3 reportedly showed no option to access the camera feature. The demonstration also featured an Animoji, although that was simply used to hide the tester’s face rather than being part of Selfie Sing itself.

Interestingly, the feature also supports the iPhone Duo‘s rear-camera selfie mode, allowing users to record with the phone’s main cameras while viewing lyrics on its outer display. That could be particularly useful for anyone wanting better video quality without losing sight of the words.

This isn’t Apple’s first attempt at bringing social-friendly video tools to its devices. The company previously offered similar creative features through its now-discontinued Clips app, although integrating recording directly into Apple Music could make the experience more convenient.

For now, Selfie Sing remains a beta feature, with no confirmed date for its wider release. Whether it becomes a popular addition or simply another karaoke novelty remains to be seen, but it gives Apple Music users another way to enjoy their favourite tracks.
