Netflix Oct. 26 announced an enhanced mobile viewing experience designed for <a href="https://myappsplus.com/apple-officially-rolls-out-ios-27-2-heres-whats-new/” title=”Apple officially rolls out iOS 27.2. Here's what's new”>Apple’s new foldable iPhone Duo, along with plans to further expand its short-form video discovery features in 2027.
The update introduces a more dynamic home screen and redesigned playback controls that automatically adjust to the device’s configuration, whether it is fully opened, partially folded like a book, positioned like a tent or resting on a tabletop.
The new interface also features a reflective glow that responds to the angle of the phone’s hinge. An upcoming enhancement will allow users to switch seamlessly between vertical and horizontal video clips as the device changes orientation.
The improvements are part of a broader effort by Netflix to make its mobile app a distinct entertainment experience rather than simply a smaller version of its television interface.
Earlier this year, Netflix introduced streamlined mobile navigation and a personalized short-form video feed called “Clips,” featuring highlights from movies, television series and specials. The feature is designed to help subscribers discover programming through brief video previews rather than traditional browsing.
Netflix said it plans to expand Clips in 2027 with themed categories and specialized feeds organized around genres, moods and individual interests.
The company said the changes reflect evolving viewing habits, with many subscribers now watching Netflix primarily or exclusively on smartphones.
Netflix first launched its app within Apple’s ecosystem in 2010, initially replicating the television viewing experience on a smaller screen. The introduction of downloadable programming in 2016 marked a turning point, allowing subscribers to watch content without an internet connection.
Since then, the company has increasingly experimented with mobile-specific features, including short-form video, personalized recommendations and more prominent visual presentations of programming.
The latest enhancements also reflect the growing importance of smartphones as both viewing devices and content discovery platforms, particularly as streaming services compete for consumers’ attention across multiple screens.
Apple’s iPhone Duo, which went on sale Oct. 23, features a 7.6-inch foldable inner display and a 5.4-inch outer screen, allowing users to move between conventional smartphone viewing and a larger, tablet-like experience.
Netflix said it intends to continue developing mobile features that take advantage of emerging devices and technologies.
