Nothing, the London-based consumer technology brand, has started the general rollout of Nothing OS 5.0, its latest software update based on Android 17. The update brings more than 80 changes across design, personalisation, performance and artificial intelligence (AI), with the general release beginning with the Nothing Phone (3).
The company said Nothing OS 5.0 will roll out to more Nothing and CMF smartphones over the coming months. The general release includes new Home Screen elements, a redesigned Lock Screen clock and further improvements to Essential Space. These additions build on the <a href="https://myappsplus.com/these-6-hidden-android-features-make-my-life-easier-heres-how/” title=”These 6 hidden Android features make my life easier – here's how”>features introduced during the software’s open beta programme.
Nothing OS 5.0 brings a redesigned Home Screen
One of the key additions in Nothing OS 5.0 is a redesigned Home Screen with transparent elements across widgets and the search bar. The interface also features an adaptive colour system that draws colours from the user’s wallpaper to create a consistent appearance across the interface.
The update also introduces a new Micrographics clock face for the Lock Screen. Inspired by hardware design, the clock face displays the date, time, weather and upcoming meetings in one place.
Nothing is also rolling out further improvements to Essential Space through Google Play alongside the general release.
Nothing OS 5.0 open beta features
The general release builds on changes introduced during the open beta. These include refreshed icons, updated spacing and animations across the status bar, Settings, Camera and Gallery, along with the Geist typeface and consistent visual elements across the interface.
The update also adds new widgets, including Collector, which allows users to create visual collections of their favourite objects, and Away Time, which tracks screen-free time. Home Screen editing has also been improved, allowing users to move multiple apps and widgets together.
AI features and performance improvements
Nothing OS 5.0 brings several AI-related features. Essential Voice offers faster transcription, while Essential Space introduces Smart Collections. Essential Apps Builder is also available directly on the phone, allowing users to describe and create AI-powered apps without coding.
The update also focuses on touch response, background app retention and system resource management, alongside refined animations across apps, folders, widgets and multitasking.
Built on Android 17, Nothing OS 5.0 also includes separate Notifications and Quick Settings panels, cross-platform Quick Share, enhanced privacy controls and a redesigned Recents screen. The rollout will expand to additional Nothing and CMF smartphones over the coming months.
