These Are the 4 Tasks AI Shouldn’t Do For Your Business Yet

Four responsibilities where human review is necessary and how to avoid the main automation pitfalls.

Artificial intelligence already drives or supports 30% of business tasks globally, but hasty automation can lead to consumer dissatisfaction, workflow mistakes, and security breaches.

George El-Hage, founder and CEO of Wave Connect, an event lead capture and AI badge-scanning platform, broke down four responsibilities where human review is necessary and how to avoid the main automation pitfalls.

    1. Editing contracts with AI tools

Legal documents are among the most sensitive areas of expertise, but AI often generates unnecessary changes, treats every unfavorable clause as a paragraph that needs to be rewritten, and can weaken compliance protections.

The most common tools for tasks like these are Harvey and LegalOn, but Harvey itself highlights that contract redlining still requires human judgment after AI edits.

    2. Answering customers’ calls

People recognize AI voice quickly, and this factor alone can cause a significant drop in customer service queries. Studies show that 31% of people hang up immediately if connected to an AI service agent, and those who stay on the line often give up if AI continually refuses to connect to a real person instead.

    3. Writing cold sales emails

AI texts look polished only the first few times, but now prospects recognize them almost instantly. Similar sentence structure and the same words used over and over are a clear giveaway, and statistics highlight the difference. Human-written texts get a positive reply rate of 3.4% (based on the study of more than 74,000 emails), while AI-written emails receive only 2.1%, over a third lower.

“Many businesses believe that AI sending emails out will bring more clients, because it’s easier to reach people. But the common practice now is just to delete an email if it reads like AI. Lower reply rates can hurt both your brand and email domain reputation, so even carefully crafted emails could end up in spam,” El-Hage said.

    4. Creating work tasks based on meeting notes

Almost every video call platform has a note-taker AI like Read.AI, but these tools are lacking context and actual understanding of what is said. The automatic task creation takes it one step further, which leads to assignments going to the wrong person or tasks that were never actually agreed upon.

Finally, sensitive information, including HR, legal, or financial conversations, are at risk of being stored externally with such tools.
