My transcription tool of choice on the Mac, MacWhisper, got another major update today with real-time meeting transcripts, significantly improved speaker recognition, tighter integration with Apple Intelligence, and a new transcription model. Here are the details.
MacWhisper gets deeper Apple Intelligence integration
I’ve written in the past about how much I rely on MacWhisper, particularly as part of my podcast production workflow.
MacWhisper was one of the first AI-powered transcription tools for the Mac. Since indie developer Jordi Bruin launched it in 2023, it has been on a relentless streak of improvements and expanded support for new models, services, and workflows.
That has included everything from automatic meeting recording and speaker recognition to watched folders, system-wide dictation, local and cloud AI models, and integrations with services such as Notion, Zapier, Obsidian, and n8n.
Today, MacWhisper was updated to version 15.2, introducing an improved speaker recognition powered by NVIDIA’s Nemotron 3 Diarization model, which was announced just hours ago.
It supports up to 8 speakers and can also be used during live meetings in the new realtime meeting view!
Which brings us to another major addition in today’s update: real-time meeting transcriptions.
This feature had been sitting near the top of MacWhisper’s public roadmap for a while, and it is now here, allowing users to follow, refer back to, copy, or transfer a live transcript as the meeting unfolds.
You can keep the window above your other apps to follow along, and your recording and transcript are saved when the meeting ends.
When it comes to the actual transcription models, MacWhisper 15.2 adds Alibaba’s QWEN3-ASR transcription model with support for 22 languages, in addition to a tighter integration with Apple Intelligence, Siri, Spotlight, and Shortcuts on macOS 27.
Now, users running macOS (including in the EU) can search for transcripts system-wide, open them with Siri, pull their text into Shortcuts, and refer to the transcript currently on screen in Siri or Apple Intelligence requests.
Finally, MacWhisper 15.2 adds folders and subfolders for organizing transcripts and meetings, with support for dragging existing transcriptions into them from the sidebar.
