President Donald Trump embraced the expansion of artificial intelligence, drawing mixed reactions from citizens and lawmakers

President Trump took to social media to dismiss concerns about the rapid development of AI tech. He said his administration will not hinder or stifle the growth of the industry – writing, “We will cherish it, help it, and watch over it as it grows.”
Virginia Senator Tim Kaine was among those critical of the president’s reluctance to support regulation. He said AI developers themselves have expressed concern about the rapid growth of the technology and urges people to take note.
“When the leaders and innovators in this industry come forward together and say, ‘we are worried enough about AI breakouts or challenges or problems that we now are asking Congress to regulate,'” said Senator Kaine. “We had better pay attention to them.”
President Trump called apprehension to AI a “hoax” and comparing the public outcry to concerns about climate change. The president additionally said he would be forming an AI Force – comparing the concept to that of the Space Force which he referred to as a “tremendous success.”
He also pitched the idea of rebranding artificial intelligence as “super intelligence” and “superior intelligence.”
