Trackers like Apple’s AirTag have been a great piece of added utility to the mobile ecosystem, and every option has a slightly different look and feel. Samsung’s Galaxy SmartTag 3 is rumored to be launching soon and, thanks to a pair of leaks, we know exactly what to expect.
SammyGuruand Dealabshave both obtained more details on the upcoming Galaxy SmartTag 3, starting with some official-looking images from the former.
These reveal that Samsung’s new design lacks any sort of built-in mounting mechanism. Instead, the squircle shape requires an add-on to be connected to a keychain, bag loop, or anything else. It does result in a smaller design from the looks of it, but it’s a pretty big departure.
As pictured below, both prior generations of Galaxy SmartTag have had some sort of built-in loop for mounting, and this is also commonplace among other third-party smarttrackers from the likes of Pebblebee, Chipolo, and more. Apple’s AirTag, Motorola’s Moto Tag, and Google’s upcoming Pixel Tag all lack built-in mounting options too, though.
Functionally, this leak also reveals that SmartTag 3 will have UWB and Bluetooth, as well as an IP67 rating and around 500 days of battery life. There’s no mention of what network it will use, but it’s almost certainly exclusive to Samsung’s network rather than using Google’s Find Hub network in any capacity.
The other report claims pricing will be unchanged at €39.99 ($29.99 US), though a 4-pack will go from €129.99 to $139.99 this time around.
A release date is unclear, but Samsung certainly has plenty of other announcements in the pipeline.
